Meet a Campus Minister – Sister Susan Kidd, CND
Sister Susan Kidd, CND serves as Campus Minister at the UPEI Chaplaincy Centre.
After graduating from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 1985 with a BPHE/BA, Sister Susan Kidd entered the novitiate of the Congregation of Notre Dame, becoming professed in 1987. Sister Sue then moved to Toronto, where she obtained a B.Ed. and began her teaching career.
While teaching, Sister Sue continued to study part-time, completing her Master of Divinity at St. Michael’s College, U of T in 1999. That same year, she was called on to take on a new position – Vocation Director for her community in English Canada.
In 2007, Sister Sue answered another call and moved to Cameroon, where she worked as a youth minister. She describes this time as the most challenging and fulfilling period of her life.
After her return to Canada in the fall of 2009, Sister Sue received a phone call from Father Charlie Cheverie (in January 2010 – yet another call!). She was looking for a job, and he was looking for a campus minister! Following a one-week visit to the campus in March and several phone calls, Sister Sue moved to Prince Edward Island in August 2010 and started working in her current position as UPEI Campus Minister.
Sister Sue brings her experience in youth ministry and spiritual direction to her everyday presence on campus. She currently sits on her community’s vocation committee and chaired the CND World Youth Day Committee in Lisbon last summer.
Sister Sue currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry.
